Rolled my old 401k into a Gold IRA - best decision for me

Figured I'd share my experience for anyone on the fence about diversifying their retirement. I had an old 401k from a previous job, sitting there doing...whatever 401ks do. Not enough hands-on control for my liking. After looking at the market craziness over the last couple of years, and honestly, just feeling uneasy about everything being tied up in paper assets, I decided to pull the trigger and roll a good chunk of it into a Gold IRA.
I ended up moving about $150k over. It wasn't my entire portfolio, maybe half of what I have in retirement accounts right now. I spent a solid month or so researching different companies, checking reviews, and talking to a couple of reps. Ended up going with one that had a good reputation for straightforward fees and didn't try to upsell me on anything fancy. The process itself was surprisingly smooth, mostly paperwork and waiting for the funds to transfer. Didn't hit any major snags at all.
For me, it’s about tangible wealth. Running a horse farm just outside Louisville, you learn to appreciate things you can actually see and touch, things that hold their value through thick and thin. The stock market feels too much like betting on the weather sometimes. With the gold, I feel a lot more secure, knowing a portion of my retirement isn't just numbers on a screen.
Has anyone else here done a similar rollover? What was your experience like? Any surprises, good or bad? I'm curious what others' long-term thoughts are, especially with all the talk about inflation and economic uncertainty right now. Feels like a smart move to me, but always good to hear other perspectives.
