Rebalancing - Thinking about adding more to my Gold IRA
- •Been thinking a lot lately about rebalancing my portfolio, especially with all the noise out there about inflation and market volatility.

Been thinking a lot lately about rebalancing my portfolio, especially with all the noise out there about inflation and market volatility. I've got a pretty solid chunk in my Gold IRA – probably around $350k or so, which is about 20% of my total retirement pot. Considering how much I’ve seen commodities shift over the years in the steel industry, gold always felt like a good steady hand in the mix. But with the way things are looking, I'm wondering if I should be increasing that allocation.
My initial thought was to bump it up to maybe 25-30% of my total portfolio. I’m fortunate enough to have some extra cash flow right now, so it wouldn’t be a huge stretch. I’ve always been a believer in tangible assets, and frankly, some of the paper assets are making me a bit nervous. I’m 58 now and really don't want to see a huge chunk of my retirement evaporate in the next few years. Birmingham’s a comfortable place to be, but I don’t want to be working past 65 if I don’t have to.
For those of you who’ve gone through a significant rebalancing into precious metals, what was your experience like? Did you regret it, or was it a good move? Any thoughts on timing? I was looking at that Tax Calculator tool on Gold IRA Blueprint and it's got me thinking about the tax implications of moving funds around. That's always a headache, but potentially worth it for the peace of mind.
I’m particularly interested in hearing from folks who are in a similar age bracket or have a background in industries that understand the ebb and flow of raw materials. Is anybody else feeling the pull to de-risk a bit and put more into physical gold and silver?
