Rebalancing my portfolio – feeling a bit stuck, thoughts?
- •I've been pretty heavy on the gold IRA side, probably sitting around 20-25% of my 200k portfolio in physical gold.
- •The rest is a pretty standard mix of ETFs and some individual stocks.
- •My financial advisor back in Minneapolis has always been super conservative, which I appreciate, especially after seeing how things can swing.
Okay, so I'm about five years out from my dream early retirement – nothing too crazy, just aiming for like 58-60, assuming everything goes according to plan. I've been pretty heavy on the gold IRA side, probably sitting around 20-25% of my 200k portfolio in physical gold. The rest is a pretty standard mix of ETFs and some individual stocks. My financial advisor back in Minneapolis has always been super conservative, which I appreciate, especially after seeing how things can swing.
Lately, though, I've been wondering if I should rebalance a bit more towards stocks. I’m a marketing exec, so I'm constantly analyzing trends, and while gold has been rock solid (and a great hedge, obviously), I'm feeling like I might be missing out on some growth opportunities. I’ve been looking at the Gold vs Stocks Comparison tool, and it really highlights some of those long-term stock gains. It's making me second-guess my current allocation a bit.
My concern is obviously taking on too much risk this close to retirement, but also not having enough growth potential. Has anyone else in a similar boat (mid-fifties, Gold IRA, aiming for early retirement) looked at rebalancing from gold more into stocks? What were your triggers? Is 20-25% too high for gold when you're still a good few years out? I’m not talking about abandoning gold entirely, just maybe trimming it down to 10-15% and pushing the difference into some broader market index funds.
I'd love to hear some real-world experiences and perspectives. I'm trying to weigh the security of gold against the potential upside of equities without getting too greedy. What's your current gold to stock allocation, and why? Sometimes it feels like there’s no perfect answer, just a lot of educated guesses!
