Rebalancing my Gold IRA - what are you guys doing?
- •I've got a little over $200k in my Gold IRA with Augusta Precious Metals, which has been great for balancing out my more volatile investments.
- •It's been a fantastic hedge, and I'm super happy with how it's performed, especially with all the economic weirdness we've seen lately.
- •I started out with about 15% of my overall retirement savings in precious metals, and it's grown nicely since then.
Okay, so I'm about 7 years out from what I hope will be an early retirement (shooting for 55, currently 48), and I'm really starting to think about shifting some things around in my portfolio. I've got a little over $200k in my Gold IRA with Augusta Precious Metals, which has been great for balancing out my more volatile investments. It's been a fantastic hedge, and I'm super happy with how it's performed, especially with all the economic weirdness we've seen lately. I started out with about 15% of my overall retirement savings in precious metals, and it's grown nicely since then.
My question for you all is about rebalancing. I'm currently a marketing exec here in Minneapolis, and while it's a good income, I'm trying to be strategic. With retirement on the horizon, some financial advisors suggest reducing exposure to more "alternative" assets and moving towards more traditional, income-generating investments. My initial thought was to keep the gold allocation pretty steady, maybe even let it ride a bit, given the talk of continued inflation. But then I hear arguments for taking some of those gains and reallocating.
Are any of you further along in your retirement planning/actual retirement with a Gold IRA? How are you approaching rebalancing? Are you selling off some of your gold holdings to put into, say, dividend stocks or bonds? Or are you maintaining a higher percentage of precious metals to simply preserve capital as you get closer to needing that money?
I'm torn between locking in some of those gains and continuing to rely on gold as a bulwark against market fluctuations. It feels like a pivotal time for making these decisions. Would love to hear some real-world experiences and thoughts here. What's your strategy?
