Okay, so I've been sitting on this for a bit, feeling a little queasy about pulling the trigger. I opened my Gold IRA a few years back, sometime in 2020 – felt like a good, solid move with all the uncertainty then. I put about $75k into it, mostly American Gold Eagles and some Canadian Maples. My original thought was seriously long-term, retirement supplement for my government pension, you know?
Now, seeing how things have been going, especially with the recent run-up in gold prices, I'm hovering around the $95k mark. Which, hey, great! But it's also making me think about rebalancing. I'm starting to feel a little over-allocated in gold itself, especially given it was supposed to be a diversification play, not necessarily the entire focus. I've been looking at some of the silver options, maybe some platinum coins, just to spread things out a bit more within the precious metals space. I'm thinking about moving maybe 10-15% of the gains into those, or even some different forms of gold like bars instead of just coins.
I guess what I'm grappling with is the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality versus smart portfolio management. On one hand, gold's been doing its thing. On the other, is it wise to just let it ride this high without taking any action? What are people's thoughts on rebalancing a Gold IRA specifically? Have any of you guys done something similar after a good run? My advisor at the Gold IRA company seems open to it, but I always like to get some real-world opinions outside of the sales pitch.
I'm based in Albuquerque, so I've even been looking locally for any dealers that might offer better insights on specific products, though obviously, it all has to go through the IRA custodian. Any advice or shared experiences would be really helpful!
