Hey everyone, Gary here from Fresno. Hope you're all doing well. Been a long-time lurker, first-time poster – usually pretty busy with the almond groves, but I've been thinking a lot about our gold IRA and thought I'd finally jump in.
I got into gold a few years back, around 2020, when the market was feeling a bit wobbly. Figured real assets were the way to go, especially with the inflation we've seen since. I put about $75,000 of my retirement savings into physical gold through a reputable company, and it’s been a good decision for me, watching that value climb. My question today is about storage fees. My current custodian charges me around $250 a year for storage. It's a flat fee, which I like because I don't have to worry about it fluctuating with the value of my gold. But I'm always looking to make sure I'm getting a fair shake, especially with operating costs rising on everything else these days.
So, I’m curious, for those of you with gold IRAs, what are you typically paying in storage fees? Is it flat, or is it a percentage? What kind of percentages are you seeing if it's not a flat fee? Are there any hidden charges I should be aware of or different storage options I might not have considered? I know some folks store at home, but with a gold IRA, it's gotta be an approved depository, right?
Just trying to get a feel for what's standard out there. Any insights or experiences you can share would be really helpful. Thanks in advance for the chat!
