Hey everyone,
Steven Mitchell here, from Cleveland. Been lurking a bit and finally decided to jump in. As a manufacturing exec, I’ve always appreciated the tangible nature of hard assets, which is why I’ve been a big believer in a Gold IRA for a while now. Diversification is key in my book, especially with the way the markets have been swinging lately. I currently hold mostly gold rounds in my Gold IRA – fewer numismatic premiums and I like the straightforwardness of it.
I’m curious about everyone’s experience with storage fees. I just got my quarterly statement, and while I understand storage is a necessary evil (can't exactly keep $250,000 worth of gold in my basement, right?), I feel like my fees have crept up. My current custodian charges me around 0.15% per year, which, on my current holdings, comes out to roughly $375 annually. When I first set this up about five years ago, it was closer to 0.10%, so just over $200 a year. It's not a huge jump, but it adds up over time.
Are these kinds of increases typical? What are you all paying for storage, %-wise or even a flat fee, especially if you're holding gold rounds? I want to make sure I’m not overpaying. I've heard some custodians offer lower rates for larger holdings, but I haven't really seen that reflected in my statements. Also, any thoughts on segregated vs. commingled storage and how that impacts fees? I know I went with segregated for the peace of mind, but I sometimes wonder if it's worth the slightly higher cost.
I've been trying to educate myself more on all the intricacies of a Gold IRA outside of just the initial purchase, and I actually found a lot of helpful info on the Learning Center. It’s a great resource for understanding the different types of fees and how they work. Definitely worth checking out if you're looking to brush up on things.
Anyway, really looking forward to hearing your insights and experiences. Thanks in advance for any tips or advice!
