Pulled the trigger on my 401k to Gold IRA - waiting game begins!
- •My portfolio is sitting around the $180k mark right now, and I decided to move about $50k of that into physical gold.
- •I went with a direct rollover, figuring it was the safest bet to avoid any accidental tax hits.
- •The paperwork with my old 401k provider seemed to take an age, but it's all submitted now.
So, after months of back and forth, crunching numbers, and a few too many late nights researching, I finally initiated the rollover of a chunk of my old 401k into a Gold IRA last week. I'm an accountant here in Atlanta, so I'm hyper-aware of the tax implications and the importance of diversification, especially with the current economic climate. My portfolio is sitting around the $180k mark right now, and I decided to move about $50k of that into physical gold.
I went with a direct rollover, figuring it was the safest bet to avoid any accidental tax hits. The paperwork with my old 401k provider seemed to take an age, but it's all submitted now. My new Gold IRA custodian told me to expect the funds to clear and the precious metals to be purchased within 2-4 weeks, but I'm just antsy to see that reflected in my account. Anyone else gone through this recently? What was your actual timeline like for the funds to fully settle and the gold/silver to be allocated?
I'm trying to be patient, but my inner accountant just wants everything perfectly organized and accounted for immediately. I've been obsessively checking the market, and it kind of makes me wish I'd done this a few months ago when gold was a bit lower. Hindsight, right? Anyway, I’m feeling pretty good about the long-term move. I’ve even been playing around with the "Silver vs Stocks" tool on Gold IRA Blueprint (https://silvervsstocks.goldirablueprint.com/?period=10Y) to compare performance over the last 10 years, and it really reinforces my decision to add precious metals.
Any tips for managing the waiting period? Or just commiseration from others who've been through the 401k rollover limbo? Knowing what others experienced would really help set my expectations.
