Okay, so I've been diving pretty deep into inflation protection lately, especially with all the noise out there. My portfolio is sitting somewhere between $500k-$1M right now, mostly in tech which has obviously been a wild ride. Living in Austin, I’ve seen firsthand how quickly prices can skyrocket, from real estate to literally everything else. It's got me thinking more and more about diversifying beyond the usual stocks and bonds.
I set up a Gold IRA about a year ago, mostly as a hedge against market volatility and inflation. Put about 10% of my total portfolio into it, opting for physical gold since that felt like the most tangible way to protect wealth. The idea was to have something reliable when the dollar starts looking shaky. So far, it's been pretty stable, not the rocket ship some meme stocks were, but definitely not the rollercoaster ride of my growth stocks either.
My big question is, for those of you who've used a Gold IRA specifically for inflation protection, what's your experience been like in the long run? Am I thinking about this correctly as a solid inflation defense, or are there other angles I should be considering? I'm always looking for ways to optimize, especially given the current economic climate.
Any insights from others who've navigated these waters, particularly with similar portfolio sizes or economic concerns, would be super helpful. Are there specific types of gold (bullion vs. coins) you've found more effective, or perhaps other precious metals you'd recommend diversifying into within an IRA structure?
