Been thinking a lot about my silver stack lately and figured I'd share how I got into it and what my current thinking is. As a real estate agent down here in Miami, I'm constantly seeing how the market shifts, and honestly, the thought of having all my eggs in one basket, even a diversified stock portfolio, just makes me a little uneasy. My goal is to build a solid retirement nest egg, and for me, that means a significant portion needs to be in something tangible. I started dabbling in silver about four years ago, and it really picked up steam during the pandemic. Right now, I've probably got around $30,000 in physical silver, mostly coins and some bars. My overall portfolio is in the $150k range, so it's a decent chunk, but I'm looking to grow it more.
My strategy has evolved quite a bit. Initially, it was just about buying whatever I could get my hands on at a good price. Now, I'm much more focused on finding good deals and making sure I'm not overpaying on premiums. I tend to buy in 5-10oz increments whenever I have some extra cash flow from a commission. I'm not too worried about the day-to-day price fluctuations; this is definitely a long-term play for me. I've been really impressed with how silver has held up compared to some of my other investments during inflation scares. It feels like a genuine hedge.
I've also been experimenting with allocating a small portion to a Gold IRA with silver exposure, just to see how that works for potential tax advantages down the line. It's a whole different beast than just buying physical and storing it myself, but definitely something to consider for those looking at their retirement accounts. Does anyone else here use a Gold IRA for their silver?
One of the tools I've found incredibly useful is the "Silver vs Stocks" comparison tool over at goldirablueprint.com. Seriously, if you haven't checked it out, you should. It's really eye-opening to see the performance over a 10-year period, especially when you're trying to decide on asset allocation. It helps solidify my belief in holding physical assets. What are your thoughts on comparing silver's performance directly against the stock market? Any other Miamians here with a similar stacking journey?
