Been seeing a lot of chatter lately about platinum prices and wondering if anyone else here is looking at it for their precious metals IRA. I've got a decent chunk, about $150k, in my IRA split pretty evenly between gold and some diversified funds. Gold's been good to me, feeling pretty secure there, but I'm always looking at ways to be smart with my money, especially with my kids getting older and college looming.
My thinking is, with platinum historically trading higher than gold and the current industrial demand looking like it could pick up again eventually, maybe there's an opportunity. It feels like gold has had its run, and while I’m not selling my gold, I’m wondering if allocating some new funds, or even a small portion of my current gold, towards platinum might be a shrewd move right now. I'm an insurance agent here in Omaha, so I naturally lean towards risk mitigation and diversification, but also recognize that sometimes you have to lean into potential growth.
Has anyone here actually added platinum to their Gold IRA recently? Or thought about it and decided against it? What were your considerations? Am I crazy for even considering taking some of my gold out to swap for platinum, or just for thinking about putting new money into it? Really curious to hear perspectives, especially if you’ve gone through the process with a custodian.
