Physical gold vs. paper gold in an IRA for retirement?

Okay, so I've been wrestling with this for a while and figured it's time to get some other perspectives, especially from folks who've actually gone through this with their IRA. I've got about $75k in my Gold IRA right now, mostly in physical gold coins and bars, and I’m looking to maybe add another $20-$30k this year. I'm a government employee here in Albuquerque, so I've got my pension coming, but this Gold IRA is really about supplementing that later on and just giving me some peace of mind with all the economic uncertainty.
My big question is around physical gold vs. "paper gold." Right now, it's all physical for me – I like the idea of owning the actual asset, even if it's held by a custodian for the IRA. It just feels... safer, more tangible. But I keep seeing talk about gold ETFs (GLD, IAU) or even mining stocks, and some people say they offer better liquidity or less hassle. I get that "paper gold" is easier to trade, but it worries me that I wouldn't actually own the metal itself. Like, what happens if the ETF provider goes belly up? Or if there's a big market crash and those paper assets just plummet?
My main goal here is long-term wealth preservation and inflation hedging, not quick profits. I'm 52, so I'm thinking about the next 10-15 years until retirement. The thought of my money being tied up in something that isn't actual gold feels counter to why I got into a Gold IRA in the first place. Has anyone here regretted going the physical route? Or conversely, has anyone been burned by paper gold in their IRA? I'm trying to educate myself as much as possible – I’ve been going through the Gold IRA Blueprint Learning Center, which has been super helpful, but I want to hear actual experiences from people like us. Should I consider diversifying into some paper, or stick to my guns with physical?
