Thinking about Palladium for my IRA? Anyone else?
- •Okay, so I've been kicking around the idea of adding some palladium to my Gold IRA, and honestly, I'm a bit torn.
- •I've got a decent chunk, probably north of $700k, with around 15% of it in physical gold and silver right now.

Okay, so I've been kicking around the idea of adding some palladium to my Gold IRA, and honestly, I'm a bit torn. I've got a decent chunk, probably north of $700k, with around 15% of it in physical gold and silver right now. Been a pretty happy camper with how that's performed, especially with all the craziness in the world. As a guy who spent 30 years in the dairy industry here in Wisconsin, I’m all about tangible assets you can actually hold – makes more sense to me than paper.
My advisor mentioned palladium as another "industrial precious metal" hedge, similar to platinum. The price action has been wild, right? It was way up there, then took a pretty significant dip. Part of me sees that dip as a potential buying opportunity, but another part of me wonders if I'm just chasing a trend. Gold and silver feel like the old faithfuls, dependable store-of-value. Palladium feels a bit more... volatile? I'm not looking to get rich quick, just protect my savings for retirement.
What are people’s thoughts on including palladium specifically within an IRA? Is it worth the headache with storage and finding trustworthy dealers that handle IRA-approved palladium bars/coins? Are the premiums outrageous compared to gold or even silver? I'm thinking about maybe a 2-3% allocation of my total IRA, just to diversify a bit more within the precious metals space, but I'm not sure if it's overcomplicating things. Madison's a great place but doesn't exactly have a ton of local precious metal dealers to just pop into and chat with, so I'm relying on online info and discussions like this.
Anyone here actually hold palladium in their IRA? What's been your experience? Did you regret it, or are you glad you did? Just looking for some real-world perspectives before I pull the trigger or decide to just stick with the tried and true.
