Palladium in the IRA - anyone else taking the plunge?
- •I've been looking hard at diversifying my Gold IRA and palladium keeps coming up.

I've been looking hard at diversifying my Gold IRA and palladium keeps coming up. For some background, I spent a good chunk of my career in tech sales out here in SF, and after a pretty decent exit a few years back, I’ve been trying to be smart about asset protection. Most of my portfolio these first few years post-tech has been pretty standard stuff – a lot of equities, some real estate in the Bay Area (because, well, California), and about 15% in gold through my precious metals IRA at this point. Got roughly 400k in that account right now and I'm feeling like it's a good chunk to play with.
My advisor's a bit on the fence given palladium's volatility compared to gold, but the industrial demand combined with limited supply makes a pretty compelling case for long-term growth, especially with the push for greener tech. I’m thinking a small allocation, maybe 5-10% of my total precious metals exposure, could be a smart move here. The idea is to capitalize on potential price appreciation while still having the core stability of gold. What I'm really trying to gauge is whether the volatility is truly worth the potential upside specifically within the IRA wrapper. Tax benefits are obviously key here, but I’m more concerned about the actual metal itself.
Anyone else in a similar boat, or already holding palladium in their IRA? I'm curious about your experiences. Did you go with coins or bars? Any specific dealers you'd recommend or warn against for palladium? I’ve been using a pretty established custodian for my gold, but always good to hear if there are better options out there for something less common like palladium. My current setup is mostly American Gold Eagles and some PAMP Gold bars, but open to anything for this. Appreciate any insights!
