Okay, so I've been doing a lot of reading lately, and the idea of adding some palladium to my Gold IRA has really got me thinking. My husband, bless his heart, is all about the land and our cattle, and I totally get that tangible wealth perspective. That's why I went with the Gold IRA in the first place, putting about $65k into it a few years back when I decided I was done with the stock market casino after '08. It just feels... safer, you know? Like I can actually see my money, even if it's sitting in a vault instead of under my mattress here in Kansas City.
But palladium... it just seems to have so much industrial demand, especially with all the talk about electric vehicles and hydrogen fuel cells. It's not just a "crisis metal" like gold can sometimes feel, although I truly believe in gold's long-term stability. I actually started with just a small amount, around $5,000 worth, just to dip my toes in, and it's done pretty well for me. Now I'm wondering if I should allocate a bit more. My current portfolio is mostly gold, with a little silver, but I'm looking at diversifying within the precious metals category.
I know some people might say it's more volatile than gold, and I get that. But then again, everything is volatile these days! I'm not looking for a get-rich-quick scheme, I'm thinking long-term for our retirement. We're not getting any younger out here on the farm, and I want to make sure I'm doing everything I can to protect what we've worked for. Plus, I like the idea of holding something with such practical applications.
Has anyone else here added palladium to their IRA? What's been your experience? Any particular things I should be looking out for, or custodians that are better for palladium? Just trying to gather some more opinions from real people before I make any bigger moves. It's not like talking to a broker who just wants to sell you something, you know?
