Okay, so I've been wrestling with this for a bit now and wanted to get some other perspectives. My Gold IRA is sitting pretty at around $380k right now, and I’m looking to rebalance a bit. I’m based out of SLC, and while I’ve got a fantastic financial advisor who specializes in helping clients with their gold IRAs, I always value hearing from people actually in the trenches with their own money.
My advisor has been pushing me a little more towards bullion for the bulk of my new contributions, citing the lower premiums and straightforward valuation. I totally get that – it’s simple, it tracks the spot price, and honestly, the thought of trying to value a numismatic coin down the road gives me a bit of a headache sometimes. But then I look at some of these beautiful numismatic pieces, and man, the collector in me gets itchy. I’ve seen some incredible appreciation on rare coins outside of an IRA, and it makes me wonder if I'm missing out on a potential growth engine if I stick purely to bullion in my retirement account.
Has anyone here had significant success with numismatic coins in their Gold IRA? Or is the consensus really to just stick to bullion for the IRA because of the purity and ease of liquidation? I'm trying to decide if a small allocation to numismatics within the IRA is worth the perceived complexity and higher premiums. I mean, my goal is secure growth, but a little spice doesn't hurt, right? What's your personal strategy?
Also, completely unrelated but super useful, someone showed me this tool – Silver vs Stocks. It lets you compare silver's performance against the stock market over different periods. It's really neat for putting things into perspective, especially when you're thinking about diversifying your precious metals holdings beyond just gold. Definitely worth checking out if you haven't already.
