My Wife Finally Saw the Light on Gold IRAs (and my sanity!)

Took me a good two years, maybe even closer to three, but my wife, bless her heart, finally came around to the idea of a Gold IRA. For context, I've been in dairy for almost 30 years, saw plenty of ups and downs with milk prices and commodity markets, so I’ve always been a bit more conservative with our nest egg. We've got a decent chunk saved, probably in that $750k range, and most of it was tied up in traditional stocks and bonds. I kept telling her, "Honey, we need some real tangible assets in case things go sideways, not just fancy paper."
Every time I brought it up, it was the same conversation. "It’s a boomer thing," she'd say, or "Isn't it just a bunch of old guys hoarding shiny rocks?" I'd try to explain the hedging against inflation, the historical stability, how it’s a physical asset you own, not just a promise. I even showed her articles, economic forecasts — you name it. But she’s a numbers person, sees things in very black and white returns, and the concept of something that "doesn't pay dividends" just didn't compute for her.
What finally tipped the scales? Honestly, it was the whole inflation scare over the last year or so. Groceries are insane, gas prices were through the roof for a bit, and even here in Madison, you can just feel prices creeping up on everything. She works part-time at a local clinic, and their operating costs have been hitting them hard. She came home one day, looked at our monthly budget spreadsheet, and just sighed. "Okay," she said, "Tell me about that gold thing again. This 'diversification' thing you keep talking about... maybe there's something to it." I nearly fell out of my chair. We've now moved about 10% of our retirement into physical gold, and frankly, I sleep a lot better at night knowing we have that real hedge.
Anyone else have a similar experience with convincing a skeptical spouse or family member? What was the breakthrough for you?
