My wife finally convinced me on a Gold IRA... and I'm kicking myself for not listening sooner

So for years, my wife has been gently, and sometimes not so gently, pushing me to diversify some of my inheritance into physical gold. My family’s always been heavy into timber and real estate around Spokane – tangible assets, sure, but mostly paper in terms of my portfolio. I had a good chunk, probably around $350k, sitting pretty conventionally in stocks and bonds, and honestly, I was comfortable. Her dad, on the other hand, is a big believer in precious metals, always talking about generational wealth and protecting against currency devaluation. My wife picked up a lot of that.
I kept brushing it off, thinking, "The market's doing fine, why bother with something that doesn't pay dividends?" But then, over the last year, with all the economic uncertainty, inflation worries, and frankly, just seeing how volatile everything felt, she really ramped up the pressure. She pulled out historical charts, showed me how gold performed during various crises, and even got me to read a few articles by some of the more conservative financial writers I respect. The clincher was when she pointed out how much of our family's long-term security hinges on a stable dollar, and how gold is essentially the ultimate hedge against that. We're thinking generations down the line, not just our retirement.
Anyway, long story short, I finally caved a few months ago and we transferred about $75k into a Gold IRA, primarily in American Gold Eagles. Feeling pretty good about that decision now, especially with how things are looking globally. It's not a massive chunk of our overall portfolio, but it feels like a really solid foundation. It's funny how sometimes you need someone else to see the bigger picture for you, even when it's staring you in the face. Seriously, I wish I'd listened to her earlier.
Anyone else have a spouse or family member who really pushed them on a Gold IRA? What was their 'aha!' moment that finally got you to make the move? Curious to hear others' experiences.
