My wife finally came around on the Gold IRA - Took some convincing

My wife and I have always had slightly different philosophies when it comes to investing. Me, being the retired military type, I'm all about security and tangible assets these days, especially after seeing so much economic uncertainty over the years. She's always been a bit more speculative, chasing growth stocks and the latest tech. Well, for the past year or so, I’ve been trying to convince her to move a portion of our retirement, specifically about $150k from our roughly $400k portfolio, into a Gold IRA. I just really wanted that hedge against inflation and market volatility, especially living here in San Diego with the cost of living.
She was just so skeptical. Kept calling it a "boomer investment" and saying it doesn't generate income. I tried showing her charts, explaining the historical context, even talking about diversifying our 401k rollovers. Nothing seemed to stick. Then, about a month ago, a friend of hers, who’s a financial advisor (though not ours), mentioned off-hand that she was helping some of her older clients move into precious metals for stability. My wife came home a different person! Suddenly, it wasn't just "my" idea, but something other "smart" people were doing. I swear, sometimes it just takes hearing it from someone else.
We finally sat down and really dug into it together. We looked at different custodians, storage options, and even the types of gold and silver allowed. It still took a bit more discussion, but that external validation was the push we needed. We're now in the process of rolling over that $150k into a Gold IRA. Honestly, it's such a relief to have that part of our portfolio anchored down. It gives me a lot more peace of mind thinking about our future, knowing we have that tangible asset.
Has anyone else had to convince a skeptical spouse or partner about something like this? What finally tipped the scales for them? I’m also curious if any of you had specific resources that helped make the case. I found some useful articles on the Learning Center here which provided good historical context and answered a lot of initial questions.
