I started really getting into precious metals around 2018 when the whole tech market felt a little… frothy. Dumped about 20% of my portfolio, which was probably around $150k at the time, into silver bars through a reputable custodian. Mainly just trying to diversify away from all my startup equity and public tech stocks. Honestly, for the first couple of years, it just sat there, doing its thing, not really moving the needle much.
But man, these last few months with all the inflation scares and general market jitters? My silver holdings have been a rock. While the rest of my portfolio has been doing the rollercoaster dance, that silver is up significantly. It's not lambos tomorrow money, but it's enough to feel incredibly secure, knowing that portion of my wealth is protected from whatever economic shenanigans are brewing. It’s a real relief, especially living in Austin where the cost of everything just keeps climbing – having that tangible asset appreciation is a huge psychological benefit.
I know some folks just focus on gold, but I always liked silver for its industrial demand and lower entry point. I’m wondering if anyone else here has seen similar success with their silver allocation specifically? Or are most of you purely golden? Started with 100oz bars mostly, thinking about adding some smaller denominations next time for flexibility.
