Thought I'd share a bit about my silver stacking. Been at it pretty seriously for about five years now, though I dabbled a bit before that. Initially, like probably a lot of you, I just liked the idea of holding something tangible. Was watching the market go wild and thought, "there HAS to be a better way than having all my eggs in the tech stock basket." As a tech entrepreneur myself and with about a $750k portfolio, I’m constantly looking for hedges against the insane volatility we seem to be living through these days.

My strategy has always been less about trying to time the market perfectly and more about consistent DCA (dollar-cost averaging). I started out with a few hundred ounces, mostly junk silver and some American Silver Eagles. Now, I’m sitting on close to 2,500 ounces. Most of it is still in physical form, stored securely at a couple of different locations, but I've also invested a portion through a Gold IRA for the convenience and tax advantages. It’s been a great way to diversify outside of the stock market and real estate I've got here in Austin. Feels good to have something that's not just numbers on a screen.

The biggest motivator for me, honestly, is the wealth preservation aspect. I’m thinking long-term here, not trying to make a quick buck. With all the geopolitical uncertainty and inflation scares, precious metals just make sense as a foundational asset. I remember feeling a genuine sense of relief during some of the bigger market dips, knowing I had a decent chunk of my wealth insulated.

So, for those of you who've been stacking for a while, what's been your biggest learning? And for newer folks, what are your biggest reservations or questions? I’m always keen to hear different perspectives.

Interesting journey, OP! While I totally get the appeal of tangible assets and silver's more accessible price point, for long-term wealth preservation, I've always leaned more towards gold. Its historical stability and role as a hedge against inflation just feel more robust to me for a significant portion of a retirement portfolio. Silver's volatility, while offering potential for bigger swings, also feels like it carries a bit more risk for something I'm hoping to rely on decades down the line. To each their own, of course!

Hey, cool to hear about your journey! Five years is a good stretch. You mentioned initially just liking the idea of holding something tangible. What specifically made you pivot from dabbling to "pretty seriously" with silver? Was there a single 'aha!' moment, or more of a gradual realization?

Dude, I can totally relate to this. I started stacking silver a few years back for pretty much the exact same reasons. The whole "tangible asset" thing really resonated, especially when everything else felt so volatile. I actually just posted about how I'm thinking of branching into some gold too, but silver will always be my first love, haha.
