Been seeing a lot of posts lately about various silver plays, thought I'd throw my hat in the ring and share my own journey and strategy. I started seriously stacking physical silver about 8 years ago, mostly as a hedge against inflation and general market instability. Coming from a hedge fund background, I'm always looking for ways to de-risk and diversify, and silver just makes sense as a tangible asset.
My initial strategy was pretty straightforward: buy 100oz bars whenever the spot price dipped. I've got a decent chunk now, probably somewhere in the low to mid six figures just in silver. I store it off-site in a secure vault, which gives me peace of mind. I'm not really looking for a quick flip; this is a long-term hold for me, part of my broader emergency fund and wealth preservation strategy. I'm based in Greenwich, CT, and frankly, having physical assets I can touch and feel just hits different than abstract numbers on a screen, especially with the volatility we’ve seen in other markets.
Lately, though, I've been debating whether to shift some of that into smaller denominations or even some numismatics. The thought process is around liquidity and portability if things ever really went sideways. Imagine trying to trade a 100oz bar for groceries or gas – not exactly practical. On the other hand, the premiums on smaller stuff kill me, and I'm a volume guy. Anyone else grapple with this? Am I overthinking the "doomsday" scenario, or is it a smart move to diversify the form of the silver too?
What are your long-term plays with silver? Are you just accumulating weight, or do you have specific exit strategies or rebalancing plans? I'm always looking to refine my approach, so hit me with your best advice and anecdotes. Really curious to hear from others who are serious about this. Thanks in advance!
