My silver stacking journey and strategy -- It's been a ride since '08

Been seeing a lot of new folks asking about silver lately, which is awesome. Figured I’d share a bit about my own journey, especially since I'm pretty heavy in it. Started really getting into silver back in '08 when things felt… unstable, to say the least. My initial thought was just physical, something tangible. My business had taken a hit, and I just wanted a hedge against the kind of uncertainty that makes you want to pull your hair out. So, I started with rounds and bars, mostly from local dealers here in Scottsdale and some online. It felt good, seeing that stack grow, knowing it was mine.
My strategy since then has evolved quite a bit. What started as pure physical stacking expanded into a substantial Silver IRA, especially after I sold off a substantial portion of one of my companies a few years back. The tax advantages there were a no-brainer for a chunk of those profits. Looking at my current portfolio, roughly 30% is in physical silver (mostly 10oz and 100oz bars these days, easy to store and verify), another 20% in my Silver IRA, and then about 10% in gold, mostly through a Gold IRA. The remaining 40% is in real estate and some more traditional investments. It’s comforting having that much real assets, especially when the market does its usual rollercoaster thing. Anyone else find themselves heavily weighted towards physical after a big liquidity event?
I’m constantly refining my entry points. I don’t believe in timing the market perfectly, but I do look for dips, or when the gold/silver ratio gets out of whack. For the IRA portion, I'm pretty hands-off after the initial purchases – it’s a long-term play. But with my physical stack, I do a bit of opportunistic buying. For those of you just starting, or contemplating getting into a Silver IRA, make sure you understand the tax implications of everything. I used the Tax Calculator a bunch when I was figuring out rolling over and contribution limits for my own situation; it was a really useful tool for visualizing the impact. It's crazy how much an extra few points in tax savings can add up over time when you're dealing with seven-figure portfolios.
Emotionally, having this much in precious metals brings a real sense of security. It’s not just about the monetary value; it's the peace of mind. As an entrepreneur, I'm used to risk, but this feels different – it’s a bedrock. My biggest concern going forward is always storage and liquidity for the physical stuff if I ever needed a substantial amount quickly. Any thoughts on improving liquidity for large physical holdings without getting hosed on premiums or having to ship stuff across the country?
