Thought I'd share my silver stacking strategy and open it up for discussion. I've been slowly but surely adding to my physical silver holdings for the past couple of years, mostly as part of my diversified retirement plan (gotta think long-term, right?). As an insurance agent here in Omaha, I see all sorts of market craziness, and having some tangible assets just gives me that extra peace of mind.
My sweet spot has definitely become the 100oz silver bars. For my portfolio size, which is hovering in the $150k range across all my investments, these just make the most sense. I started off with some smaller coins and 10oz bars, but the premiums really eat into things. Once I hit a certain comfort level, jumping to the 100oz bars allowed me to get a better price per ounce. I aim for at least one of these every few months, depending on what else is going on financially and, of course, the spot price. I’m thinking about adding another one before the end of the year if the market dips again.
I primarily store my stack in a reputable third-party vault – not going to risk keeping that much at home, especially with my kids running around! For me, the convenience and security outweigh the cost of storage. Plus, knowing it's safely tucked away means I'm less tempted to constantly check it, which helps with the long-term hold strategy. My main goal with silver isn't a quick flipped profit, but rather a hedge against inflation and general economic uncertainty. What are others' thoughts on 100oz bars vs. smaller denominations once you hit a certain portfolio size?
Anyone else in the Midwest, specifically Omaha, finding good local dealers for larger bars? I've mostly been buying online, but always curious about local options to avoid shipping fees. Also, how do you all factor in potential capital gains when thinking about selling in the distant future? That's something I'm starting to ponder more as my stack grows. Love hearing others' perspectives!
