Thought I'd share a bit about my silver stacking. It's been a ride, I tell you. Started really getting into it seriously after I retired from the Navy about ten years ago. Had a decent pension and my investments were doing well, so I figured, why not diversify with something tangible? My financial advisor back then was a bit skeptical, but I’ve always been one to trust my gut, especially after seeing how quickly things can change on a global scale. I’m sitting on about 2500 ounces now, mostly in 10oz bars and some American Silver Eagles. My original goal was to hit 5000 ounces before I turned 75, and I'm still on track, maybe even a little ahead. I’ve probably put around $60k-$70k into it over the decade, riding the peaks and valleys.
My strategy is pretty straightforward, much like how I approached tactical planning. I dollar-cost average, buying a little bit every month regardless of the spot price. I generally aim for around $500 to $1000 worth of silver purchases monthly, sometimes more if there's a dip. I consider it long-term wealth preservation, not a get-rich-quick scheme. I’m thinking about my grandkids here in Virginia Beach and ensuring they have something solid, literally, when I'm gone. I keep a good portion of it in a secure vault, but I also have a smaller amount at home – enough to feel comfortable, if you catch my drift. It’s comforting knowing it’s there.
What I find interesting is the differing opinions on silver vs. gold. I'm heavy into gold too, especially my Gold IRA, but silver feels more accessible for everyday transactional potential if things ever really went sideways. Not that I expect that, but a good leader always has a contingency plan. I've been looking at some of the smaller, fractional silver options lately, thinking about how they might be more useful in a true emergency, but the premiums are a killer.
How many of you out there are primarily silver stackers? Or do you mostly focus on gold? And for those with significant silver holdings, what's your take on storing it? Any thoughts on diversifying into other precious metals like platinum or palladium for similar reasons?
