Just wanted to share my recent move with my Gold IRA, and see if anyone else on here has done something similar. For the longest time, it's just been gold in there – felt like the safest, most logical bet given everything going on globally. My portfolio's sits around the $80k mark right now, and as a jewelry store owner here in Providence, I probably handle more gold in a week than some people see in a lifetime. So I know my metals.
Lately though, I've really been thinking about silver. The gold-to-silver ratio has been bugging me. It's just felt so out of whack for so long, and honestly, the industrial demand for silver seems like it's only going to boom with all the green tech coming online. So, last month, I decided to pull the trigger. I rebalanced about 15% of my IRA, converting a decent chunk of my gold into silver. It wasn't a huge amount, maybe $12k-$15k worth, but enough to make me feel like I have some skin in the game on the silver side.
My thinking was two-fold: First, diversification within the precious metals basket itself. Gold's my bedrock, always will be, but silver offers that additional angle. Second, that potential for a bigger percentage swing. If that gold-to-silver ratio ever decides to normalize even a little bit, I think silver could see some significant upside. It's a bit more speculative than just holding gold, I admit, and my wife thinks I'm a bit crazy for fiddling with the "safe" money. But hey, it's a long-term play for retirement, right?
Has anyone else here added silver to their IRA? What's your take on including it alongside gold? Part of me wonders if I should've gone even heavier, but I also didn't want to mess too much with the primary gold holding that's done so well over the years. Love to hear some other perspectives on this - especially from folks who watch the metals market closely.
