My Gold IRA transfer took way longer than expected

Just wanted to vent a bit and see if anyone else has experienced this. I finally pulled the trigger on rolling over a portion of my old 401k into a Gold IRA. I've been eyeing it for a while now, given all the market volatility and frankly, just wanting to diversify out of paper assets. Being in manufacturing here in Cleveland, I just value something tangible, you know?
I initiated the transfer for about $150k from an old employer's 401k back in early April. The company I went with (won't name them yet, giving them the benefit of the doubt) quoted me 3-4 weeks from start to finish - getting the funds, buying the American Gold Eagles and some South African Krugerrands I picked out, and getting them securely stored. Sounded reasonable to me at the time.
Well, here we are, almost the end of May, and it's still not fully settled. The funds were disbursed from the old 401k provider relatively quickly, but there was a hold-up on their end getting them reconciled for the purchase. Then, "supply chain issues" were cited for a slight delay in getting all the specific coins I wanted. I'm not gonna lie, it's been a little frustrating having that much capital in limbo, even though I know it's being handled. My portfolio's usually pretty hands-on, so this waiting game is new territory.
Has anyone else dealt with these kinds of extended timelines for a Gold IRA rollout? What was your experience? Is this par for the course, or did I just get an unlucky streak with my particular company/timing? Any tips for future transactions?
