My Gold IRA just got a little shinier – went for some

Been a gold bug my whole life, especially after seeing the oil market swing like a wild pendulum these past forty years. My Gold IRA has been a solid anchor in my retirement portfolio since I started it back in '08, and honestly, it’s probably my best performing asset this past decade. I’ve probably got close to $800k in physical gold stored securely, and it’s taken me comfortably from a rough $2.5M when I retired from Exxon all the way up to just over $3.8M now. My wife always jokes I love gold more than I love her, but she’s just as happy about the financial security it brings.
Lately though, I’ve been feeling a little… singular. All gold, all the time. Don't get me wrong, it's done me well, but diversification is drilled into you when you work in energy commodities. So, I started looking at silver. It’s got a bit more industrial demand, which I like – gives it a different angle than just being a pure safe-haven play. Don't want to put all my eggs in one basket, even if that basket is solid 24k gold. After chatting with my custodian about the options and doing a fair bit of research on the supply/demand picture for silver, I decided to pull the trigger.
Just rolled another $100k from some relatively stagnant tech stocks into physical silver for the IRA. It felt good to spread things out a bit. It’s not a huge portion of my overall metals holdings, maybe 10-12% now, but it feels like a smart move for long-term growth and protection. I mean, we're talking about a metal that's essential for everything from solar panels to EVs – the demand isn't going anywhere. Also, the gold/silver ratio looks pretty attractive right now for silver, in my humble opinion. Anyone else out there mixing their metals in their self-directed IRAs? What’s your take on holding silver alongside gold for diversification and long-term value?
