My Gold IRA Journey - Finally Seeing the Payoff (Louisville, KY)
- •You know, for years, it felt like I was just watching paint dry with my Gold IRA.

You know, for years, it felt like I was just watching paint dry with my Gold IRA. I started building it up about 7 years ago, right around the time I was expanding the horse farm here outside Louisville. I put in a good chunk, probably around $120k back then, mostly because I just didn't trust the market with all the volatility I was seeing. My financial advisor at the time thought I was being a bit too conservative, but honestly, with feed prices and vet bills, I just needed something tangible that felt secure.
Fast forward to today, and wow. I cracked open my most recent statement, and the value of that gold and silver is just shy of $230k now. I mean, it's not like I'm buying a private jet, but seeing that kind of growth, especially when other parts of my portfolio have been a little more... uneven. It’s a huge relief and a testament to sticking to my gut feeling. I’m thinking about cashing out a small portion next year to help fund some much-needed upgrades to the main barn, maybe get some new fencing if the gold prices hold strong.
My biggest regret is probably not diversifying a bit more into silver earlier. I had some, but the bulk was definitely gold. Lessons learned, right? For anyone on the fence, or those just starting out, what kind of performance have you seen? And for those who have been through a full market cycle with precious metals, any tips on identifying good exit points?
I’ve also been messing around with the Retirement Planner tool I found online recently. It's actually pretty neat for seeing how different allocation percentages impact your projected retirement income, especially with gold factored in. Has anyone else used a tool like that specifically for precious metals? Would love to hear some thoughts.
