My First Gold IRA Purchase - Need Your Wisdom, Fellow

Hey everyone, Sandra here from over in Kansas City! My husband and I are farmers, and for us, holding something real – something you can touch and see – has always just made more sense than numbers on a screen. That's why I've been seriously looking into a Gold IRA. We've managed to set aside a good bit from our last few harvests, probably around the 60k mark we're thinking of starting with, and I really want to put it into something solid that’ll weather any storms.
I’ve been doing my homework, believe you me! I've read a ton about the different kinds of gold, the storage, the fees, and all that jazz. What I'm really struggling with is making that very first step. It feels like such a big decision, and frankly, a bit overwhelming. For those of you who’ve gone through this, what was your biggest piece of advice for a first-time buyer? Did you go for common bullion coins, or did you dive into bars or premium proofs?
I’m particularly interested in hearing about your experiences with silver bars for a Gold IRA. While I'm calling it a Gold IRA, I know you can hold silver too, and I'm quite drawn to the idea of silver bars for the purity and generally lower premium. Did anyone here start with silver bars? How was that process for you, and do you feel it was a good entry point?
I’ve even been playing around with that handy Gold IRA Calculator I found online – it’s pretty neat for seeing potential returns based on different growth rates. I plugged in our 60k and it was encouraging to see some numbers, but still, nothing beats hearing from real people. Any insights or things you wish you knew before your first purchase would be incredibly helpful!
