Thought I'd share a bit of my silver journey for those just getting started or still weighing their options. I've been pretty heavy into precious metals for a long time now – probably close to 15 years, starting really digging in after the '08 financial crisis. Initially, I dabbled a bit in gold, but silver just clicked with me more, especially with its industrial demand profile.
My strategy from day one has been pretty straightforward: accumulate cheap, store safely, and don't panic sell. I started small, buying a few tubes here and there, mostly Eagles and Maples when premiums were reasonable. Over time, as my business ventures paid off and I started moving towards retirement (official 'retired CEO' status since '18!), I really ramped it up. I'm well north of 1.2 million ounces now, mostly in 100oz bars and 1000oz COMEX bars. I still pick up fractional stuff for fun or gifts, but the bulk is in big boy bars. Living down here in Palm Beach, I've got a secure setup, and also leverage professional storage for the lion's share. It’s not just about wealth preservation for me; it’s a tangible asset that feels, well, real in a way no paper asset ever will.
The mental game is crucial with stacking. There have been plenty of times where silver took a dive, and the temptation to cash out for a quick buck was there. But I stuck to my guns, focusing on the long-term fundamentals and the erosion of fiat purchasing power. My average cost basis is pretty solid, so I've seen some fantastic gains over the years. I've also learned that chasing every dip or peak is a fool's errand – consistency beats timing almost every time. What are some of your biggest mental hurdles when it comes to holding precious metals long-term? I'm always curious to hear others' perspectives.
