My Birch experience with a smaller portfolio - worth it?

Been seeing a lot of Birch Gold talk lately, and honestly, a lot of it leans towards folks with much larger stacks than I'm working with. Thought I'd share my experience and see if anyone else in a similar boat feels the same. I started my Gold IRA with them about two years ago with roughly $120,000. I'm an insurance agent here in Omaha, and while I believe in diversification (got my 401k, some mutual funds, etc.), the idea of having some physical gold just really resonated with me, especially with all the economic uncertainty we've been seeing.
My main concern going in was the fee structure and if I'd basically be eaten alive by fees on a "smaller" account like mine. To their credit, Birch was pretty transparent. I worked with a specialist who walked me through everything, and I never felt pressured. The process itself was smooth enough – rollover from an old Roth IRA was fairly painless. I opted for a mix of gold and silver coins. So far, so good. Haven't had to touch it, which is the whole point, right? But it's comforting to know it's there. My biggest ongoing consideration is still just those annual fees compared to what I've got invested. I know it's par for the course for custodians, but it's always in the back of my mind.
Honestly, I'm trying to figure out if it was the best move for my principal, or if I should have just waited until I had a significantly larger amount to invest. There's a part of me that wonders if the fees are just too high as a percentage of my overall assets compared to someone with a million-dollar portfolio. On the flip side, getting some exposure to precious metals was important to me. For anyone who's still in the research phase, I found the education over at the Learning Center really helpful for understanding the basics and different providers before I even talked to Birch.
So, for those of you out there with similar portfolio sizes (say, in the $100-250k range), what have your experiences been with Birch Gold or other providers? Did you feel like you got good value, or did the fees feel a bit heavy? I'm always open to hearing different perspectives.
