Been seeing a lot of posts about folks just getting into precious metals, and it reminded me of my own journey, especially with Augusta Precious Metals. I’ve been stacking gold for over 20 years now, mostly physical coins. Originally started with some eagles and then moved into more diverse selections over time. I’m an auto industry retiree here in Detroit, saw a lot of ups and downs, which is probably why I’ve always been so keen on having a tangible asset outside of the traditional markets.
About five years ago, I decided to roll over a portion of my 401k into a Gold IRA. Had about $700k in my portfolio then, and after doing a ton of research, I went with Augusta. Honestly, the process was smoother than I expected. My biggest concern was the paperwork and making sure I wouldn't get hit with any nasty taxes or penalties for the rollover. Their team walked me through every single step, explained the fees upfront, and connected me with a custodian. It almost felt too easy, which, as an old timer, always makes me a little skeptical, but it worked out perfectly.
My main focus has always been recognized sovereign coins – American Gold Eagles, Canadian Maple Leafs, some British Sovereigns. I told Augusta that specifically, and they didn't try to push anything I wasn't interested in. The actual coin selection was good, and the pricing felt transparent. Over the past five years, I’ve done a couple of smaller transactions to add more to my holdings, and each time, the service has been consistent. They’re not constantly hounding me to buy more, which I appreciate. It feels like they’re actually advising, not just selling.
Anyone else here used Augusta Precious Metals for their Gold IRA or just for direct purchases? What was your experience like? I'm always curious if others had the same straightforward process or if there were any hiccups. Also, what gold coins are you all favoring these days for long-term holds? Always looking for what other seasoned investors are doing.
