My Augusta Precious Metals Experience - Went with Gold Coins, No Regrets (yet!)

Okay, so I finally pulled the trigger on getting a chunk of my retirement funds into physical gold a few months back, and I wanted to share my experience with Augusta Precious Metals. I own my own construction company here in Chicago, and let's just say I've seen enough economic nonsense over the years to really appreciate a tangible asset. Stocks are great, sure, but when the global financial system feels like it's held together with duct tape and a prayer, I want something I can actually hold.
After a lot of research and talking to a few different companies, I ended up going with Augusta. Honestly, their whole online presentation just felt more legit than some of the others that just screamed "boiler room operation." I started with about $300k of my IRA that was sitting in a pretty vanilla S&P 500 fund and decided to roll it over into gold. The process was surprisingly smooth. Their team was pretty hands-on, walking me through all the paperwork for the rollover from my existing custodian. I opted solely for gold coins – Eagles and some Canadian Maples. Silver's interesting, but gold just feels like the ultimate safe haven to me.
The whole experience, from the initial consultation where they explained everything about setting up a self-directed IRA right down to the actual purchasing and setting up storage, was pretty painless. No high-pressure sales tactics whatsoever, which was a huge relief. They outlined all the fees upfront, and there weren't any hidden surprises, which is always a concern when you're moving this kind of money. My gold is now securely stored in Delaware, which gives me peace of mind knowing it's not just some paper certificate somewhere.
I know some people might think it's an old-school move, especially at my age (early 40s), but seeing what's happening with inflation and the general instability, I feel a lot more secure with a decent percentage of my wealth in something real. Has anyone else gone with Augusta or a similar company recently? What were your thoughts? Any tips for someone who's new to this beyond just "buy and hold"?
