Just wanted to share my experience with Augusta Precious Metals for anyone looking into a Gold IRA. I’ve been with them for about two years now, and honestly, it’s been pretty solid. I rolled over about $75k from an old 401k, and the whole process was smoother than I expected. They walked me through each step, and the reps were genuinely helpful, not pushy. I mostly went with gold coins, figured that’s the most straightforward "real asset" to hold onto, especially with all the ups and downs in the stock market lately. Being an agriculture guy here in Fresno, I've always been about owning tangible things, so physical precious metals just made sense to me.
My portfolio’s sitting pretty much where I started, maybe up a fraction, but that’s not really why I got into it. It’s more for the stability and peace of mind knowing I’ve got something outside the banking system. Augusta handled the storage with Delaware Depository, which seems reputable enough. No complaints on the service, fees were explained upfront, and I haven't had any surprise charges. It’s been a good, steady hand in my overall portfolio, letting me sleep a little easier at night when the news channels are screaming about inflation or market crashes.
My biggest thought now is diversification. While gold has been great, I’m starting to think about adding some silver to the mix. Has anyone here used the Silver vs Stocks tool? I was playing around with it for the 10-year period, and silver's performance against the S&P 500 is actually pretty compelling. My current Augusta account is almost entirely gold, and I’m wondering if it makes sense to open a separate account for silver, or if I should even consider another company for that part of my metals allocation. My portfolio is probably around $80k now, and I’m looking to maybe put another $10-15k into silver over the next year or so.
So, for those of you with a mix of gold and silver in your IRAs, what’s your strategy? Do you prefer holding both with the same company for simplicity, or have you found benefits in spreading it out? And for anyone who's diversified beyond Augusta Precious Metals, were there any specific reasons you chose to go with another provider for certain metals? Just trying to optimize my strategy here for the long haul.
