Thought I'd share my experience with Augusta Precious Metals for anyone on the fence or doing their due diligence. I'm a manufacturing exec here in Cleveland, and like many of you, I'm all about hard assets, especially with the crazy volatility and inflation worries these past few years. My portfolio is in the upper 6-figure range, and I decided about 18 months ago that it was time to really diversify out of just stocks and bonds. Gold and silver in an IRA just made sense to me – tangible wealth, something you can truly hold onto (even if it's in a vault for the IRA).
After a good amount of research, I landed on Augusta. Honestly, the main draw for me was their commitment to transparent pricing and what seemed like a genuinely educational approach rather than a hard sell. I dealt with a rep named Ben – fantastic guy, very patient. We spent probably 3-4 hours over a couple of calls and a web conference just going over the ins and outs, fees, storage options, types of metals, the whole nine yards. I rolled over about $300k from an old 401k without any major hiccups. The paperwork was a bit tedious, as expected with any financial institution, but their team was pretty hands-on helping me navigate it all.
My biggest concern was the premium over spot price, and while it's there (as it is with any dealer for physical metal), I felt it was fair for the specific coins I chose. They break down all costs upfront, which I appreciated. The setup for the depository in Delaware was smooth too. It's not like I'm going to visit it, but knowing exactly where my assets are stored and having the independent audits gives me peace of mind. Frankly, getting out of the "paper assets only" mindset was huge for my personal financial philosophy.
So far, so good. The market has obviously been pretty favorable to precious metals lately, but even beyond that, just knowing I have a hedge against the kind of economic uncertainty we've been seeing is a huge relief. Has anyone else here used Augusta? Or other companies for their Gold IRA? What were your experiences with custodian fees and buyback programs if you've ever had to sell?
