Just hit my 5-year anniversary with my Gold IRA and decided to do a deeper dive into the numbers. Started this thing back in late 2018. Had a chunk of change from selling off a commercial property in Snowmass, and after consulting with my wealth manager (who usually rolls his eyes at my "precious metals obsession"), decided to move about $750k into a Gold IRA. Mostly wanted a hedge against the general insanity of the market and the sheer amount of money printing going on.
Fast forward to today, and that initial $750k is sitting pretty close to $1.15M. That's a roughly 53% return over five years, or around a 9% annualized gain. Not going to complain about that, especially considering the volatility over the same period in other asset classes. I know some of you tech bros out there probably made more on a meme stock in two weeks, but for tangible assets, I'm feeling pretty good. It's been a steady climb, with a few dips here and there, but nothing that's kept me up at night from my place up in Aspen.
My overall portfolio is north of $5M, and this Gold IRA represents a solid, foundational piece of that. I've been a developer for over 30 years, always had a soft spot for tangible assets – real estate, physical metals. This wasn't about getting rich quick, but more about preserving wealth and having a store of value that isn't tied to the whims of corporate balance sheets or geopolitical instability. It definitely smoothed out some of the bumps from my other investments. Anyone else hit a significant anniversary with their Gold IRA recently? Whatkind of returns are you seeing?
