My 401k to Gold IRA transfer - longer than I thought, anyone else?

Just wrapped up my 401k to Gold IRA transfer and wanted to get some thoughts from others who've done it. I started the process about 8 weeks ago, figuring it would be a straightforward rollover from my old 401k from my dairy plant days. I'm talking about a decent chunk, around $350k of it, into a self-directed Gold IRA. I was expecting maybe a month, six weeks tops, but it felt like pulling teeth at times.
My old 401k provider seemed to drag their feet for ages getting the funds released. Then there was a bit of a hiccup with the custodian I chose – nothing major, just some paperwork that needed a second look. It's all good now, my rounds are safely tucked away, but it definitely wasn't the speedy process I envisioned when I first started looking into diversifying away from this crazy stock market. I'm in Madison, WI, and it felt like dealing with distant banks most of the time.
For those who've done a direct rollover or even an indirect one, what was your experience like with the timeline? Was it quick and easy, or did you hit some roadblocks too? I know every situation is different, but I'm curious if my 8-week journey was typical or if I just got unlucky with some slow-moving parts. Any tips for someone considering it now to make it smoother?
