Hey everyone, just tossing this out there for some insight. I initiated a direct rollover from an old 401k into a Gold IRA about... two and a half weeks ago now. The whole thing was pretty straightforward with the paperwork – my existing custodian and the new Gold IRA company’s reps were helpful walking me through it. I’m sitting on a portfolio of about $180k, and I decided to move a good chunk, around $75k, into physical gold. Most of it’s going into those 1 oz American Gold Eagles, maybe some Canadian Gold Maples too if the premiums are right. I’m thinking long-term stability given everything happening in the world, especially living here in El Paso, you see a lot of cross-border economic impacts and just general uncertainty that makes you want to anchor your savings.
My question is, what’s a realistic timeline for this cash to actually hit my new Gold IRA account and be available for allocation? They told me 10-15 business days, but I'm getting antsy. Is that standard, or does it vary wildly? I called up the Gold IRA company yesterday and they said it's still "processing" on the old custodian's side. Feels like an eternity when you're looking at that much capital in limbo. I'm used to things moving a bit faster with regular stock trades, but I guess physical assets are a different ball game, right?
For those of you who’ve gone through this, how long did your 401k to Gold IRA rollover take from start to finish? Any particular snags you ran into that I should be watching out for? I’m hoping to get this squared away so I can properly adjust my overall retirement strategy. Speaking of which, I've been messing around with the Retirement Planner tool I found online; really helps visualize how including gold plays into the bigger picture. Definitely recommend checking it out if you're trying to project your retirement income with precious metals.
Seems like everybody’s got an opinion on precious metals these days, but for someone like me, running a few small businesses down here, it feels like a necessary hedge. Just trying to keep my capital safe and sound for the future. Any shared experiences or advice on managing the wait game would be appreciated!
