Hey folks, I've been doing some research into finally pulling the trigger on a Gold IRA, thinking about rolling over a chunk of my old 401k. I've built up a decent portfolio, probably sitting around $200k right now, mostly in tech stocks and some local real estate, but with the way things are looking globally, I want some of that sweet, sweet gold diversification. My main question for those of you who've already gone through this – what were the minimum investment requirements you ran into? I'm in El Paso, so I'm used to dealing with cross-border stuff and fluctuating markets, but trying to get a clear picture here. Are we talking $25k to start, $50k?
I've seen some companies advertising pretty low minimums, but then you dig a little deeper and there are all these hidden fees or they're pushing less common coins with wider spreads. I'm looking for something reliable, ideally with a decent selection of Krugerrands or American Eagles, nothing too exotic. I'm thinking of moving something like $50-75k into it initially, depending on what I liquidate. Don't want to overcommit right off the bat, but I also don't want to get nickel-and-dimed on smaller amounts.
Has anyone with a similar portfolio size ($100k-$250k) found a good sweet spot for minimums that didn't feel like a rip-off? What kind of custodian fees are standard at those levels? I'm trying to balance getting in at a good entry point without feeling like I'm leaving significant cash on the table by not diversifying now. Any insights from fellow investors, especially those who’ve dealt with different IRA providers, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
