Minimum gold IRA investment? Asking for a friend (and myself!)

Okay, so I’ve been kicking around the idea of a Gold IRA for a while now. I'm the mayor of a small town outside of Boise, and honestly, the community here is always on my mind – trying to make sure our local economy stays stable. That trickles down to my own finances, of course. I've got a decent chunk of change in a traditional IRA, probably in the 80k range, and I’m looking to diversify.
I’ve heard various numbers thrown around for minimum investments for these things. Some places say $10k, some $25k. What’s the real deal? I’m specifically interested in putting some of my existing funds into gold rounds, not bars or anything super fancy, just the practical stuff. I'm not looking to move my entire portfolio, maybe start with 15k-20k to get my feet wet and feel it out.
My concern is, are these minimums firm? Or can you sometimes negotiate with custodians if you're a bit under? I'm not a huge whale investor, but I'm serious about protecting my retirement. Any other small town folks out there who've done a partial rollover into gold rounds? What was your experience with the minimums? And more importantly, which providers were reasonable?
Appreciate any insights. It’s hard to find straightforward answers out there without getting bombarded by sales calls.
