Made a nice chunk of change with gold coins over the last few years
- •Thought I'd share a bit of a success story for anyone on the fence or just starting out with gold.
- •I've been in on gold coins for a while now, probably close to 8 years serious investing.
- •Coming from the steel industry back in Birmingham, commodities were always in my blood, so it felt natural to look at precious metals.
Thought I'd share a bit of a success story for anyone on the fence or just starting out with gold. I've been in on gold coins for a while now, probably close to 8 years serious investing. Coming from the steel industry back in Birmingham, commodities were always in my blood, so it felt natural to look at precious metals.
My initial dive into a Gold IRA was around 2016. I started with roughly $150k, mostly American Gold Eagles and a good scattering of Canadian Gold Maple Leafs. I'll admit, there were some years where it felt like watching paint dry, especially when the market was ripping elsewhere. But the last few years? Man, it's been a different story. I've been steadily adding to my stash, primarily through rollovers from an old 401k, and I'm sitting comfortably between $400k-$500k now in physical gold within the IRA. The recent run-up has been incredible, and it's proof that sometimes the slow and steady approach truly does win the race.
What really got me was the peace of mind even more than the gains. Watching the inflation numbers and geopolitical stuff flare up, knowing I had a good portion of my retirement fund insulated in something tangible felt damn good. It wasn't about trying to get rich quick, but rather preserving wealth and having that bedrock in my portfolio.
I know not everyone's a believer in gold, but for me, someone who's seen the volatility of raw materials firsthand, it just clicks. For those of you who've been in it for the long haul, what's been your experience? Anyone else feeling particularly good about their gold position right now, or are you looking to diversify some of those recent gains?
