So, dumping most of my old 401k into a Gold IRA. Been meaning to diversify out of tech stocks for a while now, given all the volatility we've seen lately. I was a senior PM at a pretty well-known SaaS company here in SF for about ten years, and while it was great, the market feels... fragile. My existing portfolio is around $250k, and I'm looking to roll over maybe $200k into metals. So not exactly a "small investor" but definitely not a whale either.
I've been doing a ton of research online, and honestly, the amount of conflicting info is doing my head in. Every other site seems to shill a different company, and it’s hard to tell who’s legit and who’s just trying to get a commission. Ideally, I want a company that's got a solid track record, transparent fees (this is HUGE for me – no hidden charges, please!), and good customer service. I'm based in San Francisco, so ideally, something that's easy to deal with remotely, obviously.
My main concerns are obviously the fees – storage, management, transaction. I'm going for the long haul here, so I want to make sure I'm not getting bled dry over 10-20 years. Anyone here with a similar portfolio size or experience with a rollover of this amount? Which companies did you consider, and who did you ultimately go with? What was your experience like? Any red flags to watch out for?
I'm open to both Gold and Silver. I'm thinking a split might be smart for diversification within the metals space. Any thoughts on that?
