Alright, so I’ve been looking into rolling over some of my old 401k into a Gold IRA. I own a horse farm out here near Louisville, and while things are comfortable, I’m not exactly a high roller. I’m thinking about moving somewhere in the ballpark of $100k-$150k into physical gold, maybe a bit more depending on how the market looks in the next few months. I’ve done a fair bit of research, but honestly, it’s a bit overwhelming with all the different companies out there.
My main concern is finding a reputable company that doesn't just cater to multi-million dollar portfolios. I want competitive fees, good customer service, and straightforward processes. I'm not looking for anything too fancy, just solid and trustworthy. I've seen a few names pop up repeatedly like Augusta Precious Metals and Goldco, but I'm trying to figure out if they make sense for someone at my investment level. I'm practical about my wealth, and I want to make sure I'm not getting hit with unnecessary fees just because I'm not bringing in a huge amount.
Has anyone here with a similar portfolio size (let's say under $250k) had a particularly good or bad experience with any specific Gold IRA companies? I’m leaning towards holding actual physical silver bars, not just paper gold, because that's what makes sense to me long-term. Any advice on companies that are transparent about their fees and don't try to upsell you constantly would be awesome. Also, anyone here from Kentucky use a local company for this?
I’m really just trying to diversify a bit and gain some peace of mind with tangible assets. The stables keep me busy enough without having to constantly worry about a volatile stock market. What's been your experience with the setup process and ongoing management for a portfolio of this size?
