Just put more silver in my IRA – anyone else diversifying
- •I finally pulled the trigger and added a decent chuck of silver to my Gold IRA this week.
- •I've been 100% gold for the past 15 years, ever since I started getting serious about precious metals.
- •My portfolio's been holding strong, even with all the craziness these past few years.
I finally pulled the trigger and added a decent chuck of silver to my Gold IRA this week. I've been 100% gold for the past 15 years, ever since I started getting serious about precious metals. My portfolio's been holding strong, even with all the craziness these past few years. We're talking probably north of $750k in the IRA right now, mostly gold eagles and a good slug of 10oz bars.
My decision to finally add silver really came down to a couple of things. One, the gold-to-silver ratio. It's been pretty elevated for a while now, and with industrial demand for silver only looking to go up, it just feels like it's got more room to run for capital appreciation right now. Gold's my bedrock, always will be, but silver offers that extra leverage. Two, supply constraints. All the talk about mines closing and the difficulty in bringing new ones online in the current climate has me thinking silver's scarcity is going to become a much bigger factor.
I snagged a good amount of American Silver Eagles and some 100oz bars — diversifying a bit, you know? Just feels right. I've been through a few downturns in my time in the oil industry in Dallas, and you learn quickly when to pivot and when to hold tight. This felt like a smart pivot.
Anyone else in a similar boat, adding silver after being primarily gold? Or are you sticking with just one metal? What are your thoughts on silver's long-term prospects versus gold, especially with the current industrial demand narrative?
