Finally pulled the trigger and added some silver to my Gold IRA. For context, I'm a manufacturing exec up in Cleveland, 40s, and my portfolio is roughly in the $350k range right now. Always been a hard-asset guy β something you can actually hold, not just numbers on a screen. That's why I started with gold a few years back, and it's been rock solid through all the market craziness. Looking at the next 5-10 years, I see a lot of uncertainty, and I really want to diversify beyond just gold.
My initial gold allocation was about 15% of my overall portfolio, roughly $50k worth. For the silver, I just allocated another $15k from some cash I had sidelined (was sitting in a high-yield savings, but with inflation, felt like a losing battle). My main reasoning for silver comes down to a few things. First, the industrial demand angle is HUGE. EV batteries, solar panels, electronics β silver is everywhere. This isn't just about inflation hedging for me anymore; it's also about a real, tangible use case that I think will only grow. Also, the gold/silver ratio just felt too high. It seemed like silver was undervalued historically compared to gold, and that felt like a good entry point.
I know some people here are gold-only purists, and I get it. Gold is the ultimate store of value. But for me, adding silver felt like a smart play for both diversification and potential growth. My financial advisor was a bit lukewarm on silver, preferring more traditional equities, but he understands my desire to hold physical assets. Ultimately, itβs my money and my future. I worked with a reputable dealer that specializes in IRA-eligible metals, and the process was pretty smooth.
Anyone else here diversified their precious metals IRA beyond just gold? What was your reasoning? Are you seeing similar industrial demand growth for silver playing out, or am I overthinking that aspect?
