Been seeing a lot of chatter lately on here about folks dumping silver, or getting cold feet when prices dip. Figured I'd share my own journey, maybe it'll resonate with some of you, or at least spark some good discussion. I've been in the dairy industry my whole life, rooted here in Madison, WI. Seen plenty of ups and downs in commodity prices over the decades, whether it's milk, corn, or now global markets. That steady, pragmatic approach is what I bring to my investing, including my silver stack.
My strategy for silver has always been a pretty simple one: accumulate. I started seriously buying about 10 years ago, mostly bars β 10oz and some 100oz. I've got a decent chunk now, probably somewhere in the low to mid six figures just in silver, separate from my physical gold holdings for the IRA. I'm not looking for a quick buck, never have been. This isn't about day trading or trying to time the market perfectly. Itβs about preserving purchasing power for my grandkids, frankly. When the dollar wobbles, or the market gets squirrelly like it has periodically, seeing those silver bars just feelsβ¦ solid. Like a good stand of alfalfa after a long winter.
I buy when I can, usually once or twice a quarter depending on what's available and if I see a decent price. I'm not chasing every small dip, but if there's a significant correction, you bet I'm looking to add. Storage is secure, that's paramount, and I've got a mix of home safe and delegated vaulting for the larger pieces. My wife jokes I'm building a pirate's treasure, but seeing what happened in '08 and the increasing uncertainty globally, I sleep a lot better knowing a good portion of my wealth isn't just numbers on a screen.
Anyone else taking a similar long-term view? Or am I just an old-school midwesterner clinging to shiney rocks? Curious to hear other strategies, especially from those who've been in it for a while. What's your comfort level with your stack today?
