Curiosity if anyone else is feeling a bit exposed after the latest Fed decision? I've been watching the gold spot price tick up, which is great for my Gold IRA, but I’m still feeling some jitters about the broader economic picture. I've got around $750k in my portfolio, a good chunk of that diversified with physical gold and some mining stocks in the IRA. Been a gold investor for a while now, probably close to 10 years, and it's always been a solid hedge, especially during times like these. I'm based in Memphis, run a logistics company, and I'm really starting to think about succession planning in the next 5-7 years, so capital preservation is top of mind.
The rate hikes definitely make borrowing more expensive, which could slow down business for some of my clients, and that trickles down. On one hand, I appreciate the Fed trying to combat inflation, but on the other, I worry about a hard landing. My gold holdings have been a real bright spot, showing that clear inverse relationship to the dollar when things get dicey. Anyone else seeing gold as a primary safe haven right now more than ever?
I’ve actually been spending a lot of time these past few weeks running scenarios to see how different market conditions might impact my future income, especially with the business transition looming. It’s a lot to think about, not just for my personal wealth but also for the company's valuation. Speaking of which, I was playing around with that Tax Calculator a few days ago, trying to dial in some estimates for what my tax liability might look like when I start taking distributions from the IRA down the road. It’s pretty helpful for getting a rough idea, especially with all the variables involved. Really makes you consider the long-term implications of these Fed decisions on your wealth.
