Hey everyone,
I’m diving into some inherited IRA planning and feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the options. My grandmother passed a few months back, and while it's been tough, I’m trying to get her affairs in order, which includes an Inherited IRA that she had. I've been a steady gold investor for a while now, just gradually adding to my own Gold IRA over the past few years – nothing crazy, maybe around $150k-$200k in my portfolio right now, mostly physical gold. The stability is what I love, especially with the healthcare industry where I work here in Tampa – things can be unpredictable, even with a steady admin role.
My question is, has anyone successfully rolled an Inherited IRA into a Gold IRA? I know the rules for inherited accounts are different, and I've been doing some research, but it's a lot of legwork to make sure I don't mess anything up. I'm looking at potential tax implications, and whether it’s even possible to simply convert the assets into physical gold within the inherited account structure without incurring penalties or immediately having to distribute it all. I’d ideally like to keep it as an IRA for as long as possible, but in a metal I trust.
I’m really hoping to keep this money safe and sound for the long term, just like I do with my own investments. The thought of having it exposed to market volatility right now, especially with everything going on globally, just makes me anxious. Gold has always been my safe harbor. Any advice or shared experiences on this would be massively appreciated. What companies did you work with? Any pitfalls to watch out for?
