This is where a good custodian really shines, or shows their true colors. I went through something similar with my aunt's estate a few years back, though hers was traditional not Roth. We used the same company for both our IRAs, but when it came time to liquidate and distribute for the beneficiaries, their fees were suddenly much, much higher for an "inherited IRA payout" than for a normal distribution. Make sure you get all the fee schedules up front, in writing, before initiating anything.

This topic hits home. My mother passed away unexpectedly in early '22, and she had a decent chunk of her retirement in a Gold Roth IRA through a company I'd never even heard of before. It was a nightmare. The company she used had terrible communication, outdated forms, and tried to push us into a direct sale at a price way below spot. Took us nearly 5 months to finally get the gold liquidated and transferred out to a regular Roth her advisor set up for my dad. If you inherit one, *do your homework* on the original custodian first, and don't be afraid to pull it out if they're not playing ball. Wish I'd known about GIRAB back then, would have saved us a lot of headaches.

Glad I stumbled on this thread. After dealing with a complete nightmare trying to roll over an old 401k from a previous employer (they were basically holding my money hostage), I was pretty cynical about any more "retirement investment" sites. But the info here is actually solid. Especially the Tax Calculator – wish I had that before, it would've saved me a ton of headaches and phone calls with my accountant. The one at https://tax.goldirablueprint.com/?forum really lays out the numbers clearly, which is exactly what you need when you're looking at inherited IRAs and all the tax implications.

Dealing with inherited assets is always a bit tricky, but a Roth Gold IRA adds a few extra layers. My financial advisor here in Lexington, KY, actually turned me onto a fantastic breakdown from Schwab's website regarding inherited IRAs. They have a whole section on the different distribution options and tax implications for beneficiaries; it really helped clear up a lot of the confusion I had when my aunt passed.

Interesting points about the inheritance rules and distributions. My Roth is still growing, thankfully, but it makes me wonder: if the gold itself is held in a depository, what's the actual process for the beneficiary to take physical possession of it versus just selling it through the custodian? Are there different fees or hoops to jump through depending on that choice?

Selling an inherited Gold Roth IRA gets complicated fast, especially with the 10-year rule for non-spousal beneficiaries. I'm in Tampa, and navigating the distribution options for my own gold IRA has been an eye-opener. The tax advantages are huge if you play it right, but definitely talk to a pro about those precious metals distributions.
